How it works
Paste a product URL from a supported boutique. We do the rest — matching the exact piece across regional sites, converting currencies, and modeling the tourist VAT refund to show you where it's actually cheapest.
1. Paste a product URL
Drop the link to any product page from a supported maison. We identify the brand from the domain and pull the price, product name, and reference (SKU) directly from the boutique's own page — no manual entry, no guessing.
2. Match the exact piece across regions
Luxury sites localize everything — category slugs, product URLs, even reference prefixes (Cartier's B6091917 becomes CRB6091917 outside the US). Rather than guessing URLs, we search each regional boutique for the extracted SKU (or product name as a fallback) and scrape the matching page.
When a region doesn't carry the piece, we say so. When we can't confirm a regional price, that row is marked as an FX estimate and excluded from the "best deal" ranking — you'll never be pointed at a fake win.
3. Model the true landed price
For every region we start with the boutique's local, VAT-inclusive price and subtract the tourist refund you'd actually receive after the operator's cut. That figure is converted to your home currency and compared against your at-home price plus your state sales tax.
- · Base price — scraped live from the regional boutique.
- · VAT included — broken out so you can see the ceiling of the refund.
- · Refund — operator-accurate, not the headline VAT rate.
- · FX — converted to your home currency at a recent snapshot.
- · At-home comparison — includes your state and ZIP sales tax from your Profile.
4. Tourist tax refund by region
The headline VAT rate is rarely what you receive. Refund operators (Global Blue, Planet, eTRS) take a cut. Here's what we model per region:
5. Reading your results
- Green — the confirmed best deal after refund, FX, and sales tax.
- Yellow — regional price couldn't be confirmed; shown as an FX estimate only.
- Not sold here — the maison doesn't carry the piece in that region.
Caveats
- · Prices are live scrapes but reflect boutique listings, not real-time in-store availability.
- · Refund eligibility requires non-resident status, customs validation, and a same-day exit.
- · Card FX spreads, ATM fees, and shipping/duties on the way home aren't modeled.
- · The UK no longer offers a tourist VAT refund (scheme abolished January 2021).
- · Pages behind sign-in walls or marked "price on request" can't be scraped — you'll see a clear error.
